The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse (2019) is a psychological thriller directed by Robert Eggers, co-written with his brother Max. Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson star as two lighthouse keepers (Thomas Wake and Ephraim Winslow) on a remote New England island in the 1890s, who descend into madness after a violent storm strands them . Inspired partly by the 1801 true story of two keepers named Thomas at Smalls Lighthouse in Wales, the film was shot in black-and-white with a nearly square 1.19:1 aspect ratio . It received critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography .
