
Minari(2020) is a semi-autobiographical American drama written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung . Set in 1980s Arkansas, it follows a South Korean immigrant family, the Yis, who move from California to rural Arkansas so father Jacob (Steven Yeun) can start a farm . The film stars Han Ye-ri as Monica, Youn Yuh-jung as the grandmother Soon-ja, and Alan Kim as young David . It premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, winning both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award . At the 93rd Academy Awards, Youn Yuh-jung won Best Supporting Actress—the first Korean actor to win an Oscar—and the film received five additional nominations including Best Picture and Best Actor .
